Had this problem happen to my 2014 Escape's Powerlift gate as it would open but have to manually close. I pulled the battery terminal connection for a few minutes and did a full reset on the vehicle. Seems to be working fine now. Hope this helps.

But the arm thats suppose to let the lock go isnt. I guess im off to ford on monday to order a new one.
